How to Measure for Integral Blinds

Accurate measurements are crucial for the proper fit and function of integral blinds, which are sealed within double-glazed units. Follow these steps meticulously to ensure precision:

Step 1: Measure the Width

When measuring for integral blinds, always stand inside the building and look at the window from the interior. You can then identify the bead where the frame meets the glass. 

Measure across from the external edge of the bead to the external edge of the opposite bead.

Record the measurement and deduct 10mm.

Step 2: Measure the Height

Using the same method, measure the external bead-to-bead distance vertically.

Again record the measurement and deduct 10mm.

Step 3 Measure the Thickness of the Glass

Recess Fit (Inside the Window Frame)

This style is ideal if you want your blinds to fit neatly within the window frame for a minimalist, streamlined look.

Step 1: Measure the Width

Use your tape measure to measure the width of the window recess at three points: the top, middle, and bottom.

Record the smallest measurement to ensure the blind fits snugly inside the recess without obstruction.

Step 2: Measure the Height

Measure the height of the recess at three points: the left, centre, and right.

Again, take the smallest measurement to avoid any fitting issues.

Step 3: Check for Obstructions

Look for any handles, locks, or protruding fixtures that might interfere with the operation of the blinds. If obstructions are present, consider adjusting the measurements or opting for an exact fit.

Exact Fit (Outside the Window Frame)

This option is better if you want to maximise light blockage or cover imperfections around the window frame.

Step 1: Measure the Width

Measure the width of the window recess and add extra space on both sides (typically 50-100mm on each side) to ensure full coverage.

Step 2: Measure the Height

Measure the height of the recess and add extra space above and below the window (usually 50-100mm each) for complete coverage.

Step 3: Consider the Placement

Decide where you want the brackets to be installed and ensure there’s enough wall space around the window to accommodate the blind.
